New to JW's and need to ask some questions....
by missk_ensington ini'm a new poster as well as being new to jw's (currently having bible studies) and i have been researching the religion to make sure i go into it fully understanding what it is about, and what implications it would have on my life.
i am 20, a single parent with a child and although i was brought up being told 'the truth' by my mum, only have early memroes of attending kh.
they are now trying to suck me back in but i have grave reservations and would lke everyone's opinion/view/advice.

As a parent, your primary responsibility is to raise a child in a stable environment and nuture her with unconditional love so that he/she will grow up to be a strong independent, well balanced individual who won't fall prey to anything or anyone.
Introducing her to a cult that controls its adherents mainly by FEAR, is probably not the best way to start her life out. Otherwise she may not learn to trust her instincts. Your opening said it all....they are trying to suck me in. Trust your instincts!

and it seems like we're getting a few like this nearly every day.
people who were raised jws, really worry that they are doing the right thing in leaving, yet who have been made to feel not good enough by the wts, who felt they never measured up, who struggled with it, but came to realize that what they'd been brought up to believe was just not the truth.. the same stories are told over and over again, and they come from sincere, good people - not whiny, fault-finding apostates like the rest of us riffraff around here!

I am my mother in laws worst nightmare. She a lifelong witness at 73, and myself a nonJW married to her 3rd generation daughter. The honest, thought provoking responses from you and other elders on this forum are appreciated
If you are truly progressive, then should you walk away from this opportunity to soften hearts and minds through an honest and open dialogue?
The honest exchange of ideas and experiences in this forum is what is most important. Everyone in this forum is or was touched by the JW?s in one way or another and in a lot of cases did their own share of goosestepping. Just because someone lashes out at you because you are a current elder is no reason to take it personally. That person may not have had the kahoneys to stand up to an elder who may have crossed them, or may just need more time to come to grips with the fact that they put themselves in that position to begin with, by allowing the WTS that power over them. Ouch! (Self-examination and taking responsibility for ones own actions is brutal). You represent only yourself, an anonymous elder. See the personal attacks for what they are. Let them roll off your back.
